In 1826, land was ceded to the government by the Potowatomi Indians for a road. This road is now Michigan Street in Plymouth. Plymouth was probably named by early activist, William Polk, who seemed to be the voice in getting things done to create the town. Plymouth was incorporated in February 1851 as a town and as a city 25 April 1873.
