Perry Township Fire Department was founded in 1950 and provides emergency services to the south side of Indianapolis. It serves 85,000 residents within 42 square miles. It became a full career department in 1987. The department currently has 102 career firefighters and 11 civilians. They have four fire stations with plans to build a fifth station in the future.
