Assaria Historical Events
1950'sAssaria was the home of Paul and Lillian Bates, local artists who were featured, in the late 1950s, in Life Magazine, for their remarkable work in supporting the arts in Assaria and in central Kansas. They brought a concert series to the village of Assaria, and ran an art gallery there called The Village Studio that showcased their work and that of area artists. The Village Studio, and their adjacent home, was converted from an old granary and warehouse. I was lucky enough to have them as uncle and aunt.
