History & History Related Items Chapman history: George Freeman came here in 1855 and John Erwin and Michael in 1857. The area remained quite remote for many years, with the Erwins providing good hospitality for all travelers coming through the area. The first post office at Chapman Creek was called Farmington Post Office. Later, in 1872, the town was incorporated and named for the Creek. Many of the ancestors of the present day residents were Irish. For this reason, the town is often referred to as Chapman Irish. Here is a good history page for Chapman.
