Elk City Miscellany
The widow of quite a famous individual is buried at a cemetery at Elk City, along with her daughter and some grand children. The individual in question is Martha (Owens) Ferguson, widow of Champion (Champ) Ferguson. Champ and Martha had a daughter, Anne, and she married George Metcalf in White Co., Tenn., and George and Anne are also buried at Elk City.
Champ Ferguson was a son of William R. Ferguson and Zilpha Huff and one of the most controversial characters of the Civil War.
