This 100 acre site with woods, prairie, marsh and ponds is designated a national Urban Wildlife Sanctuary to help visitors understand, respect and appreciate the natural world. Quivira National Wildlife Refuge
28 miles west on 4th Street
a 21,820 acre refuge with a variety of plant life which attracts birds from all parts of the USA and North America. More than 250 species of birds have been observed here including bald and golden eagles, whooping cranes, whilte pelicans and wild turkeys.
