Hendrick D. Baker (Henry) was born in Kentucky. His father was a doctor who supported the Union and was killed while standing in his doorway. The killer was never found. Hendrick went into the 48th Kentucky Infantry where he became a Captain. After the war he moved his mother, sister and a brother to Saline County Kansas where he was elected Sheriff in 1879 and took office the following January of 1880.
Hendrick left Kansas and went to Oklahoma. There he became a territorial Senator. He died in Guthrie on March 3, 1897 and is buried here in Salina, Kansas.
