A small number of settlers came into this area as early as 1775. First known, in 1782, as Lebanon, Virginia, the town was named Georgetown in 1790 in honor of our first President, George Washington. When Scott County was formed in 1792, Georgetown was designated the first county seat, a position it still holds today. It is said that Georgetown was founded by Elijah Craig, a Baptist minister. He is also known as the inventor of Bourbon Whiskey!
