The climate for Bossier City is mild History & History Related Items Bossier City history: When Webster Parish was created from eastern Bossier Parish in 1871, a new seat was needed. Bellevue had been the parish seat, but with the division, it was no longer near the center of the county. It also was not near any railroad lines which was becoming increasingly important. Benton was chosen the new Parish seat after a highly charged election. One of the many towns that had attempted to become the parish seat was a small village on the Red River. The name had been changed to Bossier City in the hope the election would be swayed their way. Though it didn’t emerge the victor, it did become prosperous. By 1907, the town had incorporated. In 1925, a terrible fire burnt many buildings but the community continued to grow. Barksdale Field, or as it now known as Barksdale Air Force Base, was opened in 1933. The base was a great benefit to Bossier City which now had a great boost to its economy. When Highway 80, called the Dixie-Overland Highway, opened, Bossier City also benefited and has become the largest city in the Parish. Try this history page for Bossier City.
