Castor, Louisiana Historical Events


2000, April 23
On Easter Sunday, April 23, 2000 the village of Castor was all but destroyed by a late evening tornado which ripped through town leaving a path of destruction approximately 1/2 mile wide. Every local business had to be closed because of severe structural damage. Amazingly, no one was injured in the twister. Castor School suffered severe damage and students remain out of school pending major repairs. Subsequent rains continued to wreak havoc on an already damaged school complex causing further damage which at present (May 2000) is estimated @ 850,000 dollars. Residents of this small village must now undertake the slow process of reconstruction which will take months and even years to complete. Castor resident's had only recently celebrated the 100th anniversary of its establishment in 1900.

This page is for perpetual written accounts of historical events that have occurred in the city. Anyone who feels they have pertinent information may submit it. This includes all people in or out of Castor and could involve any interested adults or children with events or items that are of interest. Items may be submitted for publication on this page where they will remain as part of a historical archive for the city. Items of interest may include noteworthy events, special events of historical importance, information about area growth that pertains to the history of the city, and other pertinent notes. We hope to establish a large data base of information about the history of each city. Historical Societies are encouraged to open their own page on Key to the City for more extensive historical information.
