State Football Champs!
Iota, Louisiana is now the Home of the State 2A Championship Football Team. They defeated the Port Barre Red Devils with a score of 35-23 on December 10, 1999 in the New Orleans Superdome. This was a dream come true for the team because on this day Iota was put on the map with its extremely small population and fans with the biggest hearts. Every member of the Town of Iota and surrounding area had been eagerly awaiting this hard fought victory. Although the team had a 14-1 record for the year, this game meant life
or death in a sense because it would show the whole state of Louisiana that we may be a small town but we put up a big fight. One of the many banners that was waved with pride at the Superdome game read "It's not
the size of the dog in the fight; it's the size of the fight in the dog." Throughout the town, every business window was painted with maroon and gold words of encouragement and the banners that were waved
showed the determination in the team and the love in the fans. Coaches Ricky Wriborg, Neal Lege', Bill Smith, Marcus LeJeune and Chad Manuel will never know quite what to say about our Bulldogs, but the work they put in to getting the team there showed how much they love the team. Look for the Bulldogs next year because we "Ain't Goin' Down 'Til the Sun Comes Up."
