Chamber of Commerce.
Plaquemine was founded in 1775 when a settlement was opened here. Incorporation occurred on 10 March 1838. The first Mayor was Zenon LaBauve. The name of Plaquemine is an Indian word for persimmon. Once prevalent in the area, few trees are left, mostly due to bad weather conditions in the late 1890's.
