Floodof 1922
In 1922, as the Mississppi River was topping levees further upriver, it broke through at the Poydras
Plantation, leaving a long narrow crevasse at the junction of the two roads that serve eastern St. Bernard and eastern Plaquemine parishes. The plantation itself is significant in that it was one of the largest in the nation. It also had a large grinding facility which served the local area. The main house burned in 1935, and the facility was operational until then.
