Chamber of Commerce.
Settled late 1850's by William Farmer, Samuel Monzingo, J. A. Byrnes, & Joseph Murrell and their families.
The area was first known as "Sawmill Town," because of the Mill which built up homes for the Sawmill workers. Then it became known as Piney Woods to the local people. The wife of one of the workers, a Mrs. Maxwell, said there were so many barefoot residents that they should name the community "Barefoot." It became known as Barefoot Station. In 1896, Mr. Giles, secretary of the Pine Wood Lumber Company, took down the "Barefoot Station" sign. Turned it over and printed out the name, Springhill. He then put it up!
