Chamber of Commerce.
Funkstown was named for and founded by Jacob Funck in 1767. It was first known as Jerusalem until 1840 when it was incorporated and renamed Funkstown. The National Pike Road came through in 1823 and the town became a busy stop on the road.
Funkstown was also the site of a Civil War battle which took place on July 10, 1863 as the Confederate Army retreated from Gettysburg. A reenactment of the Battle of Funkstown is held each year.
