History & History Related Items Garrett Park history: Garrett Park was incorporated in 1898 and, at that time, was a prosperous and busy small town. The railroad came to town in 1893 and many trains would come and go from Washington, D.C. each day. At the time of incorporation the town had about 175 residents. Chevy Houses were built in the 1920's. They were called by that name because a new Chevrolet could be included in the mortgage. It was named for a former president of the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad, though there is some discussion as to whether it was for John Garrett or Robert W. Garrett as both were presidents for a time.
