The community of Mays Chapel is named for the historic Mays Chapel United Methodist Church building at the corner of Mays Chapel and Jenifer Roads. The church is named after the Mayes family, early settlers of the area. This small white structure, built in 1854, was followed in 1902 by a larger stone church building across the street, and a new, modern, multipurpose church structure in 1993. All three buildings are actively used by this thriving congregation at the heart of the Mays Chapel community.
