A township library located within the Village of Farwell, Michigan,Surrey Township Public Library is one of the oldest township libraries since the state of Michigan
began to keep records. The original building which housed the
library is now a museum and the library moved into its current
building in the mid 1970's. Credit goes to those early boards
which saved money each year to build the library! The library of
the mid 70's was added on to every 10 years since then, with one
wing being added in the mid 80's and another added in the mid
90's. The library is governed by a 6 person elected board. The library
director sees to the day to day runnings of the library under the
direction of the library board. The mission of the library is to provide all types of materials
to every age group be it for instruction or entertainment.
Recently a gift from the Gates Foundation enabled the library to
bridge the "digital divide" by providing the Internet as another
resource of information.
