First known as New Baltimore Station, the community was settled in 1835. The name of New Haven came from one of the founding fathers, Adam A. Bennett, in 1838. In 1865, the Grand Trunk Railroad built one of its lines through the town which secured its survival. New Haven was incorporated in 1869 as a village.
