History & History Related Items Walker history: The township of Walker became official on 30 December 1837, but settlers had actually come earlier that same year. The first settlers were Samuel and Lydia White who came from Canada. The town became a city when it was incorporated on 8 November 1962. The actual naming of Walker is not truly known though it is believed the town was named for Charles I. Walker who was active in the early settlements on both sides of the river. No one is entirely sure because most records were destroyed when a fire roared through in the mid-1800's. Here is a history page for Walker.
