Meet Vince and Marjorie Mongeau -- Vince was manager of the Good Thunder Grain Company from 1939 until 1944, later served two terms as Mayor of that great city , and was a moving force in seeing the old town get ahead. He remembers the 1972 fire truck that was purchased while still a resident there. He was back to take pictures of the great fire later and much admired the portraits on the side of the big elevators,
Ray Young was born in Good Thunder, as was his father, and Ray and Shila published the Good Thunder Herald for ten years until WWIII shut them down. They later wound up in Wabasha where they did the newspaper business for some 25 years. I was pleased to see the picture of Hose Cart No. 1 of which I was the proud captain in charge for many years. (How we tugged to get it up the hill!) Vince and I were both happy to see that the great oyster suppers were still going -- they date back to 80 years or more.
Vince and Marge Mongeau are presently living in Spring Valley, MN, and
at the moment are visiting Ray here in Texas. We have enjoyed paging through
the Good Thunder references on the internet and retelling some of the
great times we all had. Great personal greetings to any of the old crowd who may still remember
us.
