Lanesboro history:
The first post office here was named Lanesborough from 1868 to 1883 when the name was shortened to Laneboro. The new community was platted in 1868 and incorporated on 3 March 1869. It was later re-incorporated on 4 May 1907.

This museum exhibits a large variety of native and exotic "live" reptiles and amphibians; provides information on their life history, habits and value in the natural environment. Fossils, skulls, model dinosaurs and more on display. Frequent "hands-on" demonstrations featuring live animals and artifacts.

The Rhubarb Festival is held the first saturday in June each year with lots of food using rhubarb - You can taste it all! Plus...lots more to see and do.
The Commonweal Theater Company offers live professional productions. The Cornucopia Art Center, Inc offers artistic and educational development with workshops, exhibits and more
Buffalo Bill Days is held every year the first weekend in August and includes lots of fun with tournaments, food, games and fun.
Root River State Trail
Once the South Minnesota Railway Company lines, the system has more than 60 miles of paved surface bounded on the west by the city of Fountain, on the south by Harmony and on the east by Houston. Other towns on the trail are Preston, Whalan, Peterson and Lanesboro, which is the hub of the Root River Trail.
