Attractions
Menahga attractions: Saint Urho Day The "Gateway to the Pines" slogan was adopted in 1916 when the Governor of Louisiana passed through Menahga as he took part in the festivities associated with the opening of the Jefferson Highway (Hwy 71) which runs from Canada to the Gulf of Mexico. The Governor noted that Menahga was the first place on his journey where pine trees appeared -- still true today. Menahga's second slogan, "The home of Saint Urho," originated when volunteers raised funds for the design and construction of a statue of Saint Urho, the fictional patron saint of vineyard workers in Finland.
