The town was named for John S. Prince. He was the builder of a St. Paul sawmill in the early 1850's. Most of the lumber which went through his mill came from the Princeton area. Princeton was not platted until 1855. When Mille Lacs County was established in 1860, Princeton was named the county seat. It remained the seat until 1920.

Do you know of this person?
Rosa Mohlke Dudeck listed her residence in 1932 as Princeton, MN when she attended the funeral of her brother, Julius Mohlke, in Rochester, MN. Rosa would have been my Great-Aunt, born in Germany around 1850-1860. Obviously she married a Mr. Dudeck. Does anyone have any information regarding the Dudecks who may have descended from her? I am researching the genealogy of our family name. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Please use this email address to respond:

I would be interested in reaching the local historical society or any other organization which could help. Thank you,
