Founded in 1870, Walnut Grove was named for the grove of walnut trees along the banks of Plum Creek. The community was incorporated on 18 March 1879.

The Wilder Pageant is presented every July along the banks of Plum Creek near Walnut Grove. The hillside amphitheater has been developed to allow for extensive lighting, sound, and special effects. It is our hope that visitors will take with them a sense of history and a deeper appreciation of the joys and hardships that challenged our ancestors when settling the prairie.

The museum's collections feature memorabilia of the "Little House" TV Show including the Fireplace Mantel and Rifle & Powderhorn replicas. Souvenirs, books, and dolls are available in the Museum Gift Shop.
Ingalls Homestead
Laura Ingalls Wilder lived 1.5 miles north of Walnut Grove along the banks of Plum Creek from 1874 to 1876
