The Osage and Delaware tribes were the original inhabitants of this area. The area was named "AuxArcs," pronounced Ozark, by the French. The first white settlements began around 1827 and the original county of Kinderhook was created in 1841. It was later re-named Camden County. Camdenton was incorporated on 29 May 1931.
