In World War One, Lathrop was the site of the largest pack mule production farm in the world. Hundreds of train cars of mules were shipped from Lathrop to their final destination in England. Evidence of this history is still evident in the Lathrop Mule HS sports teams and numerous roads and businesses with "Mule" in their name.
