Compounding is the art and science of customizing medication to meet the needs of the individual patient. For instance, many people have difficulty swallowing. Compounding allows the pharmacy to put medication that is normally only available commercially in a tablet or capsule form, into a flavored liquid. Some medications can even be put into a topical cream or gel to be rubbed into the skin. The special vehicle used to put the medication into, draws the medication through the skin and into the bloodstream, bypassing the stomach. This is especially helpful to people who have to take medicine for arthritis that can sometimes cause stomach upset.
Bioidentical Hormone Replacement is another area we specialize in. The hormones we use come to us in powder form and are identical to what our bodies produce naturally (bioidentical). These hormones can be compounded into capsules, creams and gels.
