Here is a good history page for Flowood.

Flowood first began back in 1951, with the towns peopel finally getting a charter for their town in 1953. Though hampered by flooding and even more flooding over the years, Flowood has hung on and rebuilt to become a flourishing and production city. In 1990, the town incorporated as a city and has since continued to grow, develop and improved each year.
