In 1874, because of the difficulty of travel during this time, Carroll County named Vaiden as a second county seat. It was over the Second Judicial District. All land, court and tax records for the district were kept here. The new courthouse was built that year. It was known as the Haman Memorial Building of the Presbyterian Church, named for Rev. and Mrs. T.L. Haman. A second courthouse was built in 1905.
