Oct. 17-18, 199821st Annual Woolly Worm FestivalFestival will be held at Banner Elk Elementary from 10 am - 4 pm on both days. Sponsored by the Avery/Banner Elk Chamber of Commerce and Kiwanis of Banner Elk.
The Woolly Worm festival attracts about 15,000 people to the hamlet of Banner Elk. Woolly worm caterpillars are raced on lanes of string, and the winning woolly worm is examined to determine an official festival forecast for the coming winter. Crafts, food and entertainment enhance the festive flavor of this unique folk celebration.
