Clemmons was once an impotant stage-coach center. The stage company was founded by Edwin Clemmons who was the granson of the founder of the village, Peter Clemmons. One of the last stagecoaches used by the company has been restored and is not on display in the village hall. It is called the "Hattie Butner."
