The Village has a Council/Manager form of government. There is a five member Village Council with each member serving a four-year term. The Mayor, Mayor Pro-tem and Treasurer are appointed from among the council members.

Pinehurst Historical Events

1999
The US Open Golf Championship is played in Pinehurst at the renown No. 2 Course.


1995
A 100th birthday for Pinehurst, which was founded in 1895 by James Walker Tufts, of Boston.


1994
The U.S. Senior Open Championship was held on the No. 2 Course for at Pinehurst for the first time.


1915-1923
Annie Oakley was the head of the Pinehurst Gun Club.


Early 1900's
Village founder, James Tufts, brought Donald Ross to town to design golf courses. His Pinehurst Course No. 2 was built in 1907.


1890's
James Tufts hired Frederick Law Olmsted, who also designed Central Park in New York, to design the Village of Pinehurst in a New England style.
