Princeville Historical Events

1999, September 16
The town is recovering from the great flood of 1999. On September 16, 1999, Hurricane Floyd blew through the area causing great devastation in Princeville and throughout the area. Princeville was virtually destroyed losing 850 homes. Many of the residents moved to what they called "FEMAville," what they called the temporary "town" created for them by FEMA using trailers and mobile homes.

Though the town was nearly ruined, the people didn't give up and are re-building and re-grouping. Many from outside the area have rallied to help Princeville, including prominent figures around the country, such as the Reverent Jesse Jackson. The saving of many of the historic buildings here has begun as well as the re-building of the hundreds of homes which were ruined..
