The town of Rutherford College, North Carolina was incorporated in June, 1977, and has had four Mayor's in 26 years. During the year of 1989, all four Mayor's served. Mayor Malcolm from 1977 through Jan. 9, 1989, Mayor Kincaid from Jan. 9, 1989 through September 1, 1989, W.T. Sorrell, III from Sept. 1, 1989 through the election on November 6, 1989, and our current Mayor, Jim Huffman from November 1989 till present (6-2004).

Rutherford College completely surrounds an area where a hospital is located that was annexed by our neighboring town, and is also the site where the college, Rutherford College, was originally located before being merged with Bravard Institute to become Bravard College.
