According to a "Jubilee Edition" history about the past in Selfridge, the naming of the town is up for speculation. It was named back in the early 1900's. Some of the versions of how is was named are as follows:
1. It was named after the beautiful ridges around the area
2. It was named after a Sioux Railroad executive
3. It was named after Thomas Etholen Selfridge, who was the first military person to be killed in an airplane accident. (1903) There have been several other streets, roads, bridges, statues, buildings, Air Force Bases, etc. named after him also. This is the mostly widely believed to be correct.
