To the north and east is Lake Sakakawea with some of the best walleye, northern pike and salmon fishing in the country.

Breeders Classic Bucking Horse Sale and Rodeo
In the Multipurpose Arena at the McKenzie County Fairgrounds, this is the largest sale of its kind featuring only horses from bucking horse breeding programs from the United States and Canada.
June, 1998 - third week
50th Anniversary
Watford City will be hosting the 50th Anniversary of the North Unit of
Theodore Roosevelt National Park the third week of June. Theodore Roosevelt
National Park is located 15 miles south of Watford City on Highway 85 and
features spectacular badlands scenery and wildlife viewing including bighorrn
sheep, buffalo, mule deer, prairie dogs and longhorn steers.
