On October 29, 1997 the school boards from the Adams Public Schools and the Filley Consolidated Schools agreed to merge the two schools into one consolidated school district beginning in the Fall of 1998. On November 17th the two school boards elected to call the new school Daniel Freeman Public Schools. At a school board meeting on March 16, 1998, the Falcon was chosen as a school mascot. Colors will be navy blue with North Carolina Blue and Silver trim.
