History & History-related items
The first settlers of Cotesfield were Charles and James Adams who came in 1871. The railroad came through in 1882, but no real building took place until 1902. The town was named for a Miss Cotes who was here with the family of Christopher Auger, the commander of the Department of the Platte, while Auger worked along the river. It appears to be the only Cotesfield in the world!
