The new town desired a new post office and applied for one in 1872. The name suggested for the town was Carthage, but the first postmaster, Lars Hannibal, said no to that suggestion. He wanted the name of Dannebrog for the Danish Flag which stands for beauty, goodwill, love, peace and God-given ideals.
