History & History Related Items
Sutherland was incorporated as a village in 1905. It remains a close-knit community. It was once on the mainline for the Union Pacific Railroad. Many of the early settlers helped to establish an irrigation system with canals and ditches so that the area would have a reliable source of water. The actual town was not platted until 1891 even though the little community was well established.
