This is a great history page Hancock was founded early in our nation's history during the Revolutionary War. Hancock has remained much the same through the centuries. While many other areas will designate a historical village or area, the whole town of Hancock is one. Every building is listed on the National registry of Historical places. Once part of Peterborough, Hancock broke off in 1779. The new town was named for John Hancock, one of the signers of the Declaration of Independence, who also happened to own some acreage in town.
