The park is located 20 miles southwest of Carlsbad on US 62/180. The park includes 46,776 acres. Carlsbad Cavern is a series of huge underground rooms which makes up one of the worlds largest caves. There are 21 miles of surveyed corridors and chambers. The entrance is 90 feet wide and 40 feet high. The underground temperature is a constant 56 degrees.
