Located atop West Mesa, overlooking Albuquerque, Rio Rancho has always attracted people. Pueblo Indians came for the rich soil and plentiful hunting along the Rio Grande River. Gold lured the Spanish Conquistadors to the area. Today, beautiful vistas and a great place to live bring people here. Rio Rancho has a central location to many of the area attractions. It is close to the cultural and historical sites near Albuquerque and Santa Fe. All the while, the city holds its own attractions with many annual events, an antique car museum and a championship golf course.
