Truth or Consequences average annual precipitation is 10-12 inches per year. History & History Related Items Truth or Consequences history: This town's original name was Hot Springs. Maybe it is the only town to be named for a radio show, or maybe not. But, nevertheless, the town was renamed Truth or Consequences in 1950 when a live broadcast of the radio program, Truth or Consequences, was broadcast from here. They received so much publicity from the show, the locals decided they should name the town for the radio program. The area is well known for its hot springs nearby that heat to 110 degrees F. The springs were originally a secret place known only to the Apaches of the area.
