History & History Related Items
Genoa is Nevada's oldest town. It was founded in 1851 as a trading post for the wagon trains coming through the Great Basin before they entered the Sierra Nevada. The original settlement was called Mormon Station. It was part of the Utah Territory and then became part of Douglas County in Nevada Territory in 1861. When the Comstock mines were discovered nearby Carson City became a prominent city and Genoa left the limelight as a center of government.
