History & History Related Items

McGill Nevada was heavily involved with Copper Minning at the Kennecott copper mine, the largest open copper pit mine in the world. The mine was in Ruth Nevada and the Smelter was in McGill.
Children had to take a train to White Pine County High School in Ely Nevada, some 13 miles away. My mother, Peggy Joudas, was born and raised in this tiny Nevada town. She worked at the McGill Bank 2 1/2 years, and at Ely National Bank in Ely for another 2 1/2 years. She left McGill for San Francisco at age 24 (1945).
