History & History Related Items Akron history: Akron was established in 1849 and is celebrating their 150th Birthday this year 1999, during our annual 4th of July Celebration. Akron attractions: Akron is in the Buffalo-Niagara Falls Metropolitan area. Rich-Twinn Octagon House, listed on National Registry of Historic Houses. Museum owned by Newstead Historical Society. Open 1st and 3rd Sundays of month, 1-3 PM. Group tours by appointment. Hy-Wynne Arabian Horse Farm. Owned and operated by Edwin and Clarice Sutton. Akron Falls County Park Historic Restoration of "Main Street" in progress. Completion date: mid-1999 Akron Municipal Electric System provides the community with dependable power to residents, businesses and industry at one or the lowest rates in New York State. Akron Water System began in 1896. The source of water is from a reservoir system in Bennington, which includes a filtration plant owned and operated by the Village of Akron. Akron's water was voted best tasting water in Erie County in 1997. Akron's Sewer and Waste Water System provides the community with a modern, state of the art system, allowing for easy expansion and growth. Return to Index
