Dannemore was named after a town in East-Central Sweden which has same type of iron ore. Additional info and photos can be seen at an extensive exhibit at the Dannemora library.

In Dannemora, the first permanent settlers arrived in 1836 when Phineas and Lydia Hooker spent the night in a shanty or lean-to probably erected by hunters.
