John Bailey,a master cutler and patriot, moved up to Fishkill from New York City after the occupation of British troops. There, he forged a sword for Gen. George Washington in 1778. It has been described as probably the most famous silver-mounted sword of American origin and
one of many that Bailey made for American officers. The sword is now in the Smithsonian and more of his work is at West Point Museum and the Metropolitan Museum in New York City
